Buc-ee’s Takes Legal Action Against Another Alleged Copycat

The beloved Texas-based convenience store chain Buc-ee’s is once again heading to court, this time targeting a Missouri-based coffee and food shop over trademark concerns.

Buc-ee’s has filed a lawsuit against Barc-ee’s, a small business located in Marshfield, Missouri. Unlike previous alleged imitators, Barc-ee’s is not a chain and does not operate as a gas station. However, Buc-ee’s argues that the shop’s name and logo bear too much resemblance to its well-known beaver mascot.

“By using the Barc-ee’s Logo — a colorable imitation of the Buc-ee’s Logo — Defendants have violated Buc-ee’s Trademarks,” the lawsuit states. “[Barc-ee’s] actions regarding use of Barc-ee’s Logo have all been without authorization of Buc-ee’s.”

This isn’t the first time Buc-ee’s has taken legal action against businesses it deems too similar.

Earlier this year, the chain filed a lawsuit against Super Fuels, a North Texas gas station company, alleging that its logo—a cartoon dog wearing a cape—bore a striking resemblance to Buc-ee’s signature beaver.

Outside the U.S., Buc-ee’s lookalikes have also made headlines. In 2023, a store in Matamoros, Mexico, called “Buk-II’s – Supermercado” gained attention online for its mascot—a mulleted gopher instead of a beaver.

Another store, “LUC-KY’s,” appeared in Tamaulipas in December, featuring a raccoon mascot in place of Buc-ee’s beaver.

Buc-ee’s remains vigilant in protecting its brand, ensuring that no business comes too close to its distinctive identity.
