DoorDasher takes off with dirty clothes

What started as a routine coffee order quickly turned into a baffling mystery for one Flower Mound family. Instead of just dropping off their order, a DoorDash driver allegedly made off with three bags of their laundry.

Brett Hooton had placed a coffee order through the popular food delivery app on Saturday morning, just before heading to his son’s baseball game. At the same time, he had left three bags of dirty laundry outside for a scheduled pickup by a laundry service. But when the laundry company later called to ask where the clothes were, Hooton realized something was wrong.

“We went back and checked the doorbell camera footage, and that’s when we saw the DoorDash driver taking the bags,” Hooton said.

The footage reportedly showed the delivery driver setting the coffee down, snapping a proof-of-delivery photo, then grabbing two of the laundry bags. Moments later, she returned for the third before driving away.

Company Responds, But Questions Remain

Hooton immediately reported the incident to the Flower Mound Police Department and contacted DoorDash. However, the response was less than satisfying.

DoorDash informed him that they were unable to reach the driver and offered him a $10 credit for the inconvenience. In an email, the company assured Hooton they were investigating and that the driver would no longer be making deliveries on their platform.

“We take these reports very seriously and do not condone this type of behavior. If you choose to file a police report, please know that DoorDash will cooperate fully,” the company stated.

Despite this, Hooton found it odd that the driver had seemingly disappeared.

“That’s what made it feel more suspicious—her number no longer worked, and she wasn’t responding to DoorDash,” he said.

Accident or Intentional Theft?

While some might assume the driver mistook the laundry bags for donations, Hooton is skeptical, especially given the value of the stolen clothing, which he estimates at over $1,000.

“You don’t realize what’s missing until you go looking for something and it’s not there,” he said.

DoorDash has yet to issue an official public statement regarding the incident. Meanwhile, Hooton is left feeling frustrated by the strange turn of events.

“A little bit of a violation, a little bit of an annoyance,” he said. “It’s just really bizarre.”
