Gusty Winds Expected This Weekend

Texas residents should brace for increasingly gusty winds and rapidly changing conditions across the Panhandle as they head into the weekend. Amarillo is set to experience rising wind speeds on Saturday, with gusts peaking near 25 mph by Sunday night, which may create travel difficulties along Interstate 40.

Weekend Weather Overview

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, Saturday will feature mostly sunny skies with highs reaching near 80°F. Winds from the west-southwest will range between 10 to 15 mph, with occasional gusts up to 25 mph. By Saturday night, skies will remain mostly cloudy, and temperatures will dip to around 45°F.

Sunday will continue the dry but breezy trend, maintaining mostly sunny conditions with a high near 73°F. Winds will shift from the north-northwest at 10 to 15 mph, bringing gusts up to 20 mph. These sustained winds could elevate fire danger in rural areas and pose risks for high-profile vehicles traveling on open highways.

Safety Precautions

Residents are advised to secure any loose outdoor items and exercise caution on area roadways, particularly along I-40. The National Weather Service strongly discourages outdoor burning and recommends staying hydrated due to the dry, warm conditions.
